Bobby Richardson at the Yogi Berra Museum

May 2007
On Sunday, May 6th, Athletes in Action hosted Bobby Richardson at the Yogi Berra Museum. A "standing room only" audience enjoyed a rendition of the poem "Casey at the Bat" by local actor, Dave Conley, some highlight footage of the '61 Yankees, and an inspiring message from Bobby Richardson. Bobby played second base during the late 50's and early 60's for the Yankees. The World Series MVP in 1960, Bobby is the only player to win the award while playing on the losing team. Richardson made seven all-star teams, won 5 gold glove awards, and is the only player in history to play in 30 straight World Series games.
The Bobby Richardson Night brought attention to the work of Baseball Chapel, the official ministry to professional baseball. Richardson helped to found the organization and was its president for several years. Two current Yankees, Mike Myers and Josh Phelps, were in attendance. Both are active with the ministry. Yogi Berra made a surprise visit during the program to support his former teammate.
